Concept L.A. Fashion Week Installations

Concept Los Angeles brought together a collection of eclectic designer installations at Ace Gallery Los Angeles as part of its Fall 2012 showing.

Las Vegas designer Paul Redmond showcased three futuristic looks, combining a cropped red leather jacket with a glowing LCD screen and clear plastic skirt; a bright, tribal-patterned jumpsuit and red suede boots; and a black women’s tuxedo with tails paired with tapered pants and a sequined skirt.

Redmond said he was influenced by tribal prints mixed with the “futurism of the 1960s” and flights to the moon.

Bryan Hearns’ military-inspired collection was a combination of force and elegance, featuring a wool army blazer and skirt in military green, a long-sleeved crème-colored blouse and ostrich feather dress, a black sequined halter dress, and a sleeveless jacket.

Henry Duarte’s installation featured no models, only a grainy black-and-white video of silhouetted figures, while designer Mike Vensel channeled “2001: A Space Odyssey” with models draped around a large, black monolith and wall projections of the desert. The models wore simple, sleeveless, black turtleneck mini-dresses with the exception of one who was sporting black leggings with a crème blouse and cropped black jacket.

Memenic designer Mechelle Epps showcased a handful of one-shouldered and halter evening dresses in chartreuse, black and tiger-print, along with a black-and-white skirt and blouse. This was the L.A. designer’s first time showing as part of Los Angeles Fashion Week.—Deidre Crawford
