LA Fashion Weekend: Betsey Johnson and Vilorija

Veteran  designer Betsey Johnson displayed whimsically mixed color and saucy prints for her Spring 2012 season at a runway show at L.A. Fashion Weekend@Sunset Gower Studios March 16. Fashion and nightclub crowds took in the show at the Sunset Gower Studios in Hollywood.

Using shades such as a light rose, fuchsia and electric blues, Johnson’s collection featured some rock ‘n’ roll–style looks.  One was a purple T-shirt bearing a fearsome-looking skull graphic worn over a flirty miniskirt. The miniskirt was given a charming bubble shape with ruffles. Other looks featured a demure sundress with a floral print. There was an off-the–the-shoulder top with a festive pattern depicting chiles. Another was loose-fitting trousers with a rococo print of flowers and shapes that would fit in an 18th century garden.

European designer Jelena Vujanovic made her California debut for her Vilorija line after Johnson’s show.  Vujanovic displayed 15 looks that featured antique mirror appliques sewn on the line’s cocktail dresses. The line also displayed some different looks. The bottom of one cocktail-ready look ended in shorts, not the typical skirt.—Andrew Asch
