Brooks Bros. Moves Back to Downtown LA

Brooks Brothers made clothes for Abraham Lincoln and Franklin Delano Roosevelt, as well as generations of lawyers, stockbrokers and entrepreneurs. Despite its great concentration of law firms and financial-services offices, downtown Los Angeles has not had its own Brooks Brothers since 2010, when a boutique lease expired in the 600 block of South Figueroa Street. However, that situation will change with the help of the Jonathan Club, an 88-year-old private social club in downtown Los Angeles known for its old-money membership of the city.

Brooks Brothers will open a more than 1,300-square-foot boutique on the grounds of the Jonathan Club in spring 2013, confirmed Jim Jahant, general manager of the Brooks Brothers emporium on Rodeo Drive.

“It is a wonderful fit,” Jahant said. “Brooks Brothers and its heritage and Jonathan Club and their heritage.” The Brooks Brothers Jonathan Club store will sell its country-club line and its sportswear line as well as its suiting line. While located in a private club, the store will be open to the public.—A.A.
