Advanstar Hires Rue La La Exec as VP of Marketing, New Director at S.L.A.T.E., Street

Tom Florio, chief executive officer of Santa Monica, Calif.–based Advanstar Fashion Group, producers of the MAGIC and Project trade shows, named former Rue La La executive Randy Kabat vice president of marketing. He will be based in the company’s New York office.Kabat’s responsibilities include developing and overseeing new business initiatives, as well as overseeing creative services, digital strategies, events and communications for the Advanstar Fashion Group, which includes MAGIC, Project, FN Platform, WWDMAGIC, Sourcing at MAGIC, MAGIC/Mens and Pooltradeshow.

Most recently, Kabat was senior vice president of brand-partner marketing at Rue La La. She has also served as executive vice president of marketing and advertising at Prada.

“We have planned a dynamic, integrated growth strategy for the Fashion Group,” Florio said. “Randy’s experience at Prada—and, more recently, at Rue La La in multichannel marketing, fashion and retail—will help us build the team and evolve our business.”

Tommy Fazio, president of Project and menswear for Advanstar, recently named Kenny Mac as the new show director of S.L.A.T.E. and Street. He will also be based in New York.

Mac is the founder and creative director of the brand-development company Creative Contraband. He has a background in development and marketing at LVMH Belvedere Vodka and LVMH 10 Cane Rum and served as the marketing director at Sean John.“We’re excited to have Kenny Mac join the team to help strengthen and focus our efforts in the growing and exciting world of youth culture,” Fazio said.—Sarah Wolfson
