CrowdStar Challenges Fashionistas With New Stylist App

Top Stylist is an app created for both iOS and Android, going beyond just a mobile game and offering a rare glimpse into the luxury fashion industry. Created by CrowdStar, Top Stylist aims to attract a new set of mobile users by merging high fashion and innovative game play with hundreds of pieces of designer clothing, shoes, jewelry and accessories.

Players are cast in the role of a fashion designer and tasked with creating new styles for a variety of clients to earn currency and to go shopping.

Formerly known as Closet Wars, the game challenges self-proclaimed fashionistas and professional stylists to use their fashion sensibilities to style clients according to their requests in order to unlock new wardrobes and earn new clients.

“Top Stylist is an entertainment platform with innovative game play on which the players can interact with sophisticated brands in a fashion setting,” said CrowdStar Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Tseng. “We are in active conversations with various industry players to bring real fashion brands to our Top Stylist players, right in the game.”

After installing the app, on-screen instructions provide an opportunity to learn about all the app’s features. The interface has a haute couture layout that dramatically enhances user experience.

Entering the style section, players are confronted with their prospective clients. Each of them has a specific taste in clothes and a requirement for a particular number of points per style.

The majority of the game revolves around dressing up clients or dismissing ones who aren’t interesting. Each successfully styled client gives you points used to unlock new wardrobes from different fashion designers.

In order to purchase new clothing items and unlock brands, players must first use their accumulated style points. Once a brand is unlocked, the player gains access to a pack of random clothing items. After the player has satisfied a client, the player earns experience points, a new client shows up, and the process repeats.

Be it a thoroughly enjoyable app on its own standing, outside of implementing a GREE (a social-networking service focused primarily on mobile games) and including a social tab, there is seemingly little incentive for players to play together. The game doesn’t have an official community, and there are no means for players to post pictures of outfits on social networks from within the app, a feature that other, similar games, such as Bejeweled Blitz, make use of as a means of viral promotion.

Another missed opportunity is seen in the fictional in-game brands. An app like this is an ideal opportunity for the developer to partner with real-world clothing brands and allow them to use the game as a means of advertising.

Nevertheless, Top Stylist is an enjoyable app that gives players ultimate control over how they want clients to look and puts your styling skills to the test. Give it a try if you think you have what it takes.

Top Stylist is free to download from iTunes and Google Play and is compatible on both smartphones and tablets.
