Project taps Nordstrom Exec for Top Post
Tommy Fazio, men’s fashion and trend director at Nordstrom, was named president of prominent trade shows Project, S.L.A.T.E., Street and MAGICMENS, it was announced Oct. 14.
Fazio will work out of the New York offices of Project’s and MAGIC’s parent company, Advanstar, according to Tom Florio, chief executive officer of Advanstar’s fashion group. “With Tommy on board, we hope to create partnerships that re-establish men’s fashion week in New York and continue to create new business opportunities for our community of retailers and brands at Project,” Florio said.
Florio oversaw Project in August after Andrew Pollard, the previous Project and MAGIC menswear chief, resigned in May to introduce virtual trade show Pop-Market, which is based in New York. MAGIC has its own virtual trade show in the works. It is called Shop the Floor. MAGIC spokespeople did not return calls requesting comment by press time.
Project is a biannual show with New York dates scheduled for Jan. 21–Jan. 23. Upcoming Las Vegas dates are Feb. 19–21. Advanstar acquired Project, a formerly independent show, in 2005 for $9 million. Project is best known for exhibiting premium and contemporary men’s and women’s brands as well as displaying emerging brands in the trade show’s Workroom section.—Andrew Asch
