LA Fashion Week Spring 2013: Camila X. Castillo

Growing up in Venezuela, designer Camila X. Castillo was inspired by the look and design of science fiction and dystopian films such as “Clockwork Orange” and” Alien.” For her first U.S. runway show, which took place Oct. 13 at Concept LA Fashion Week at Siren Studios, she mixed feminine looks and futuristic hard-edged styles in a 15-look collection called “Alien.”

For this collection, she used leather, mesh and spandex fabrics for dresses, evening looks, and separates such as skirts and tops. Looks included a sheer, orange mesh top over a white bikini top and a sheer, white capelet-style shoulder piece over a gold-colored bikini top, as well as skirts and dresses featuring panels of artfully arranged strips of fabric.— Andrew Asch
