Ron Robinson's New Look

Ron Robinson has been extending his reach around the Los Angeles area. In Santa Monica, his fragrances are sold at Shutters on the Beach hotel. In downtown L.A., he recently built a pop-up shop at Guerilla Atelier.

Robinson, long one of the most prominent retailers at the Fred Segal compounds of stores in Los Angeles and Santa Monica, just turned his attention to his own Los Angeles boutique. On Nov, 21, he held a party for the renovation for StylObjects, the 1,800-square-foot section of his Melrose Avenue shop. StylObjects is devoted to design, gifts, accessories and books.

The veteran retailer worked on the redo of StylObjects with architect Ruben Ojeda. “It’s warm and modern,” Robinson said of the remodel. The new look features slick cabinetry, rough hewn flooring and brick walling. Most of the shop’s lighting comes from LED bulbs, which use less energy than other lighting, Robinson said. The use of LED bulbs at his boutiques serves his businesses's focus on sustainability.

At its debut party, Stylobjects toasted many collaborations. One such creative production was a collection of jewelry and crystal studded skull figures produced by a collaboration of fashion houses Maison Martin Margiela and Swarovski.

Of course the store carried Robinson’s popular timepieces and Missoni blankets, Robinson is well known for his work with the Missoni fashion house. Books also were very important. Publisher Patrice Farameh made an appearance where she presented on her art books, such as Rock Star Chic. Also on hand was a 50 pound book, with a price tag of $8,500. The limited edition book, only 500 copies were made, is called “Before They Pass Away.” In its pages, photographer Jimmy Nelson chronicles some of the world’s last tribal peoples such as the Ladakhi of India.

On the other side of Ron Robinson, pin-up queen Dita von Teese held court for her ardent fans. The occasion was the debut of her new fragrance Erotique.

In February 2014, the Ron Robinson location on Melrose Avenue will stretch out its legs. It will be taking over the adjacent shop which is devoted to kids styles. The current owner, Bob Serf, will be retiring. Robinson said that he'll stock the new space with some of his looks from his kids store at the Santa Monica Fred Segal, along with some women's looks.
