The Bohemian Society Sticks to the Basics for Spring 2014

No one would ever accuse designer Victor Wilde of being conservative.

But his Spring 2014 collection of men's and women's fashion stuck to the basics when it comes to color. It was all about black and white, minus the red all over. "Last season I had all these crazy colors, and it was balls to the wall," he said. "I wanted to reel that in and challenge myself."

The Los Angeles designer showed looks from his line, The Bohemian Society, on Oct. 10 at a two-day event organized by the Fashion Council Los Angeles. It was held at The Grove shopping center.

Wilde's creative silhouettes had a decidedly "Man Max" meets the "Lord of the Rings" when it came to menswear. The women's line was more fairy-like with gauzy material and flowing fabric.

Hooded capes were long and roomy for both men and women, with loose large pockets to stick your hands in. Men's pants came cropped or long with a military influence. Women wore skirts of varying lengths, short shorts or flowing Greek goddess dresses. Some fashions were made of recycled parachute material.

Fabrics used were linen, waxed linen, cotton and leather. "I used a lot of recycled material, from army uniforms, army duffel bags and did a little spin on that," Wilde said.
