Katharine Kidd Shows Off Feminine Spring 2014 Collection at The Grove

Los Angeles designer Katharine Kidd has been working with some top-notch Italian mills to come up with fabrics based on her own designs.

Key was a rose print she used in a darker motif for Fall 2013 but lightened up to a softer gray for her Spring 2014 collection shown on Oct. 10 at a fashion show organized by Fashion Council Los Angeles at The Grove shopping center.

Her light and feminine dresses went well with the outdoor venue set among the fountains and trees of the commercial space located near the original Farmers Market.

Faux black leather was a mainstay for many of Kidd's pieces - from pants and cropped jackets to flirty dresses with a flair to the skirt. Much of that black was accented with neon piping.

Neon greens and oranges were a major element in many of the skirts, blazers and dresses that came sashaying down the catwalk.

"The clothes are feminine but I wanted to add a little edge and keep it fun," Kidd said after the show. Her customer wants her clothes to be trendy but not way out there. "If you put a neon blazer on with something tailored, it really pops out."

Kidd, who launched her line three years ago and now has a store in Brentwood, has been working to reduce her price points by mixing up her fabrics. A dress with panels may have less expensive fabric on the side. Her dresses used to retail for as much as $2,500 but now sell for no more than $800.
