LA Architecture Firm Creates Sochi Shopping Center in Russia

The Jerde Partnership here in Los Angeles is known for its high-end shopping center designs. Think Santa Monica Place, Fashion Island in Newport Beach and Universal CityWalk in Los Angeles.

But not to be limited to the U.S., the architecture and urban design firm is now in Russia with a new development called Mandarin located in Sochi, where the 2014 Winter Olympics will be held.

The outdoor lifestyle entertainment center, the first of its kind in Russia, has more than 80 shops, cafes, restaurants and entertainment attractions, including a singing fountain.

There are two main plazas, one called the Fashion Quarter and the other the Entertainment Plaza with a Mandarin tower serving as the campanile of the center.

Riding on a Russian wave, the Jerde Partnership has designed Kuntsevo Plaza, a mixed-use complex in Moscow to be completed next year.
