Sportswear Exec Flies American Heroes' Moms to France

The three American heroes who saved a train-load of passengers traveling from Amsterdam to Paris from a Moroccan terrorist received a number of honors - not least the Legion d'Honneur bestowed by the French president, Francois Hollande.

So it only seemed appropriate that their mothers should be on hand to see their brave sons be pinned with a medal. That's where Columbia Sportswear President and Chief Executive, Tim Boyle, enters the picture.

He loaned the company's private jet to transport the moms of the three, along with a brother, to Paris and back.

Philanthropy is big at the company, based in Portland, Ore. Last year, Boyle's mother, Gert Boyle, chairwoman of the outdoor wear venture, donated $100 million to the Oregon Health & Science University to help match Nike co-founder Phil Knight's $500 million donation promised in 2013 for cancer research.
