LA Design Student Shows in Hong Kong

Last spring, Lu Liu graduated from Woodbury University in Southern California. Her student runway show garnered a front-page cover photo on the California Apparel News.

This week at Hong Kong Fashion Week, the Chinese native who is living in Los Angeles, showed her graduating student collection on the runway to a crowd of buyers, fashion bloggers and journalists.

Her Miss Lulu collection is vivid in color and whimsical with cartoon details found in California.

Liu, who had a booth at the World Boutique section of the show, said she wanted to get her looks out on the runway because she wants to penetrate the Chinese market.

"People in China dress very seriously. I have a lot of color in my clothes. I wanted to see if they would like it," she said.

Two very avant-garde Chinese buyers were at her booth looking at a long dress that had a photo of a girl wearing Mickey Mouse ears. They loved it.
