Public TV station KCET has a video released to coincide with Otis College of Art and Design's report on the creative economy that really demonstrates the scope of the industry’s impact—and takes viewers behind the scenes of two local companies.

“The State of Creativity” features Otis Fashion Design Department Chair Rosemary Brantley, discussing Southern California’s strength’s including its premium denim industry. I love how she describes premium denim as “denim that’s expensive for a reason.” She goes on to say as many as 150 people are involved in the production of a pair of jeans before it arrives at a retailer.

The video shows the creative process through the eyes of Erik Schnakenberg and Sasha Koehn, designers of the Buck Mason denim brand, and Wesley Chung, the owner and president of U.S. Garment washhouse.

“The State of Creativity” is part of Artbound, KCET’s series produced in partnership with Otis. The series features videos and online stories, and, ultimately, a special which will be broadcast on the station on March 24.
