Macy's Closing in NoHo

The Macy's at the dilapidated Laurel Plaza along Laurel Canyon Boulevard in a run-down part of North Hollywood is closing its doors after a major clearance sale that started last week. The sale is to run through late September or October.

The Macy's, which originally was a May Co. store, is one of the last hold outs at the aging shopping center where the department store opened in 1955.

Macy's sold the shopping center in 2014 to Merlone Geier Partners and GPI Co., which has a big $200 million project in mind to convert the large shopping center into a Main Street town center with stores, eateries, apartments and offices. The very large Macy's building would be turned into a commercial structure.

But it might be a while before that happens. The project still hasn't been approved by the Los Angeles City Council.
