Burlington Expanding Downtown LA Store

It's been barely a year that the Burlington Coat Factory, also called Burlington, took over the former Big Lots store space and opened in downtown Los Angeles at the corner of Seventh Street and Broadway.

Now, the discounter is expanding big time into what is known as Section 4 of the St. Vincent Jewelry Center. Jewelers had to vacate the property by July 1, when the large space was cleared of its counters and workers began prepping for an expansion that will accommodate additional merchandise such as furniture, home accessories and other goods.

Opening of the additional space, which is on ground level while part of the store is in the basement, is expected to be around November, store staff said.

Broadway between Seventh and Eighth streets has turned into a bargain hunters' paradise with outposts such as Ross Dress for Less and the Gap Factory store close to Burlington.

But one block south, between Eighth and Ninth streets, it's a different vibe. High-end European retailers such as Acne Studios, A.P.C. and Mykita Eyewear are populating the block with Australian retailer BNKER.

What a difference a block makes.
