Los Feliz Store Closing Its Doors

Karen Prendergast opened her Una Mae's store in 2002 after moving from Chicago where she had opened a similar women's clothing and sundries store with a friend.

But after nearly 14 years of seeing the retail landscape change, she is closing her outpost at 1768 S. Vermont at the end of January. Seems like competition from the likes of Amazon and other online retailers have made a dent in the store's profits.

Prendergast said she wants to take some time off to contemplate her next move and explore her passion for interior and landscape design. Her store is a good example of how she can creatively decorate a cute emporium filled with a curated collection of clothing, vintage wear, watches, shoes, jewelry, body lotions and cards.

The roomy storefront has exposed beams, a comfy sofa and bookcases stocked with scented candles and blank journals.

The store is open every day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
