Art Deco Festival Returns to Queen Mary

Art Deco flourished from 1920 to 1940 and then faded when World War II hit.

It is characterized by bold geometric shapes, rich colors and lavish ornamentation. Think of the turquoise Eastern Columbia building in downtown Los Angeles and you'll get the idea.

If Art Deco is your passion, this festival is for you. The 12th annual Art Deco Festival is being held Aug. 19-21 at the Queen Mary, an art deco veteran herself, in Long Beach.

Daily activities include a showcase of vintage cars, a bazaar offering collectibles and vintage goods for sale and expert lectures spanning topics from film making to radio in the art deco era.

A strolling art walk will focus on the Queen Mary's extensive art inventory, murals and paintings - including the recently opened gallery "Passion for Painting: The Art of Winston Churchill Exhibition."

Day passes are $25 and an all-access pass is $399. For more information, check the Art Deco Festival website.
