Naja’s Nude For All

Lingerie brand Naja has some thoughts about the color “nude.” The California company recently kicked off a campaign titled #NudeForAll, which hopes to draw attention to the idea that the color “nude” is exclusionary and does not reflect the reality that people come in many shades of skin color. Founded in 2013 by Catalina Girald, the company’s chief executive and creative director, Naja produces lingerie in a range of shades of “nude.”

The #NudeForAll campaign was created by Badger & Winters and features 10 “real” women, including a software engineer, a ballet dancer, a Harvard business school student and Golden Globe-winning actress Gina Rodriguez, who joined Naja in 2015 as a partner.

Naja’s concept is to create luxury lingerie basics at an affordable price. The collection is produced in Girard’s native Colombia in a factory that primarily employs single mothers, who are paid more than the market wage and given healthcare benefits. The company offers flexible work schedules to help employees balance work and childcare and the company provides books, school supplies, uniforms and school meals for the children of its employees.

Naja also has an assistance program called Underwear for Hope, which employs marginalized women in Colombia to make the lingerie bags that come with each Naja lingerie purchase. These women can work from home to become their own “micro-entrepreneurs.” Plus, 2 percent of Naja’s revenue is donated to local charities that provide continuing education to these women.
