L.A. Fashion Week Spring '06: Daenamon

Orange County–based designer Chad Johannessen put a graphic spin on punk style with his Daenamon collection, which was shown Oct. 21 at the P.KaBu runway series.

Johannessen used his graffiti-art background to embellish his Orange, Calif.–based women’s and men’s line, which launched seven months ago. The collection includes both new and vintage pieces, which have been painted, printed, spattered and slashed.

To drive the punk point home on the runway, Johannessen’s models wore brightly colored Mohawks and metallic face paint.

The show started out with a series of prom-worthy dresses, gowns and suits that had been spray painted, slashed and, at times, laced into new shapes. Men’s gray suit pants were laced tightly around the calf, giving them a jodhpur look. The designers segued into destroyed-denim looks, including a woman’s pinstriped and splatter-painted jacket worn with jeans that had been slashed at the knees. Spray-painted motifs included skulls, hearts, the Daenamon logo and expletives. Johannessen closed the show with a series of spray-painted boxer briefs and boyshorts. —Alison A. Nieder
