Lauren Moshi: Detail-Driven
Inspired by fine-art galleries, sculpture, jewelry, literature and photography, the brother-and-sister team of Michael and Lauren Moshi launched contemporary fashion label Lauren Moshi for the Spring/Summer 2007 season. Targeted to “people with good taste, Hollywood starlets, and the rich and the famous,” the line has a distinctive rocker vibe. Bell-leg French-terry pants and coordinating zippered hoodies with grommet details and limited-edition graphics offer a flashy alternative to subdued sweats. Kitson, Ron Herman, Electric Ladyland and Intermix are among the retailers carrying the line. “Every item is produced in Los Angeles, either in our office or a block or two away,” Moshi said. “We are very on top of our quality control.”
High-quality rayons, Modals and cottons were utilized for the collection. The Fall 2008 line also includes a series of specialty jersey ponti de roma scarves in the Moshis’ seasonallimited-edition prints with chunky Swarovski crystals dangling from the ends.
Focused on using “luxurious-feeling fabrics cut to flatter the figure,” the Moshis have created a youthful collection of comfortable basics. Asymmetrical tank tops, grommet hoodies with matching sweat pants and shirt dresses were among the top-selling pieces from the Spring 2008 collection. Signature pieces being carried over to future collections include short- and long-sleeve T-shirts, the classic sweat pants and the grommet hoodies. Because all the artwork is printed in limited edition, once it sells out, the print is retired.
Wholesale prices range from $32 to $135. According to the designers, the new scarves were a huge hit among high-end retailers, and their loyal clientele gave a very positive response to the new collection.
