Mexico to Pare Down Apparel Duties

Mexico and China have signed an agreement under which Mexico will immediately eliminate or reduce hundreds of anti-dumping duties on Chinese imports. The agreement, which was signed by Mexican Minister of Economy Eduardo Soto and Chinese Trade Minister Chen Ming after six months of negotiations, must be approved by the Mexican Senate before it goes into effect. The agreement will reduce the duty on footwear from 1,105 percent to 100 percent. Duties on apparel imports will be cut from 533 percent or 379 percent to 140 percent. Other anti-dumping duties will remain in effect until Dec, 11, 2011, when they will disappear.
