Reality Sells at Live! on Sunset

Imagine the Home Shopping Network goes MTV’s “Real World.” That’s the pitch for Live! On Sunset’s upcoming e-commerce store.

The new reality show-based e-commerce store is scheduled to debut in December at www.liveonsunset.com. The site will Webcast one- to three-minute segments profiling designers and points of interest around Hollywood, Calif. (There will be one profile on tattoo parlor Mark Mahoney’s Shamrock Social Club.) For the “Real World” angle, the Webcast will profile the daily lives of the stylists/sales staff working at the Live! On Sunset emporium. The physical store opened in August at the former Tower Records building at 8801 W. Sunset Blvd.


If all goes according to plan, Live!’s stylists/salespeople will reveal the latest twists on their love lives or fashion conundrums on video blogs, while shoppers from around the world tune in to chat with the sales staff through the Web site. The concept’s founders are hoping the visitors turn into shoppers who will purchase items from the Live! On Sunset store, which will carry apparel, accessories and gifts from contemporary brands Scotch Soda, Dylan George and Superdry, candy marker Dylan’s CandyBar, beauty products Apothecary or designer vintage pieces from The Way We Wore, which has a mini-boutiques at Live!


Live! On Sunset is a concept put together by Los Angeles jeans mogul Gerard Guez. Among the businessmen guiding the company is Shawn Gold, a former senior vice president of marketing and content at MySpace. Entertainment at the bricks-and-mortar store also will be a focus. The space features a DJ sound system and, if thirst strikes, a Buddha Bar lounge at the back of the store.
