The Sartorialist Greets Fashion Faithful at Beverly Center

The Sartorialist Scott Schuman

The crowd of 350 wore their fashionable best when they gathered Oct. 22 at luxury spot Beverly Center for an autograph and a brief audience with Scott Schuman, the creator of The Sartorialist blog. He signed copies of his tome, also called The Sartorialist, which is his distillation of the photos for his influential blog, which posts snapshots of fashion-savvy folk traipsing through world’s leading cities.

Influential Beverly Center fashion boutique Traffic sold the Penguin-published book. The paperback version was initially priced at $25 on Amazon; the deluxe “bespoke” version of the book first sold for $175 on Amazon. Los Angeles magazine co-sponsored the event.

In between signing copies of his book with a Sharpie pen, Schuman said there was no formula for what catches his eye and makes his blog. He merely shoots photos of fashion-savvy people, and he trusts many others share his tastes. He also said there is no way someone can request to be on his list. They have to receive an invitation. “I like to see them before they see me,” he said of his subjects.
