Nailing It
In a past life, I wrote for a beauty-salon trade pub that focused on nails. It was as awesome as it sounds. Most of the time I wrote business and health articles (how to price a new manicure, how to maintain a healthy business, bunions!), but every so often some really weird stuff would sneak in.
One lady was an office obsession. She'd mail us photos of her "nail art." Her creations included a mobile fish bowl that she made by gluing a glass vial filled with water and a goldfish to the tip of a nail extension, and once she used nail acrylic to sculpt a tiny little bong right on her nail. Like I said, it was awesome.
Suffice to say, as much as I think nail art is cool (so tiny! so colorful! lots of potential for craziness!), I've never so much as painted stripes on my nails.
Now, the Stop It Right Now fashion blog is blurring my past and present worlds and has me seeing nail art in a whole new way. Dare I say, in a way that makes me want to head to a salon. This girl has great style and takes her nail art inspiration from brands such as Chanel and Miu Miu. What really gets me, though, is the cheeky twist she puts on everything. Anyone can ask for Louis Vuitton logo. This nail art afficionado paints her Chanel logos bleeding black polish. She makes Miu Miu's black swallows on a pink sky somehow bad-ass by pairing her girly nails with tough-chick rings.
