Heuser: Get That Monkey Off My Back

MONKEY MEN: Julius the monkey, center, with Paul Frank Industries Co-Founders Ryan Heuser, right and John Oswald.

It’s not the George Michael song. But it has a similar catchy title. Getting The Monkey Off My Back is the memoir of Ryan Heuser, who helped bring Julius the cartoon monkey to a generation or two of children and club kids.

Heuser wrote the unpublished memoir on the rise, good times, and occasional turbulence at pop culture company Paul Frank Industries, which was famously represented by Julius the pie-eared monkey. Heuser exited PFI earlier this year and recently introduced new line Athletic Recon.

He also stressed that all of the departures in the book were amicable, such as co-founder Paul Frank Sunich’s exit from the PFI a few years ago. Sounds cool. But we wanna see the memoir Ryan!
