HOT SOX

Stance: New Look for Women's Socks

Surf and skate shops are best known for boardshorts and jeans, but San Clemente, Calif.–based Stance created a new, hot-selling category for these core shops: socks.

Since 2010, Stance has been selling novelty socks for men that focus on colorful prints and patterns. Recently, the brand turned its design imagination to women. It debuted a women’s collection that concentrates on unique details, said Candy Harris, Stance’s women’s creative director.

Signature looks include the “Lola,” an ombré sock with fringes on the sock. There’s the “Mash.” It’s a tough-looking piece of hosiery that features metal studs on the top of the sock. Another look features a triangle beaded patch, and another incorporates Southwestern Native American patterns.

Wholesale price points range from $6 to $12. Stance has been sold at surf shops such as Jack’s Surfboards in Huntington Beach, Calif., and to contemporary shops such as American Rag in Los Angeles and Azalea in San Francisco. For more information, call (949) 391-9030.
