Retail-Tech Pioneer Joins Starmount Board

Retail-technology pioneer Richard Mader joined the board of directors of Starmount—an Austin, Texas–based company specializing in digital signage, interactive kiosks and mobile point-of-sale services—said Jerry Rightmer, president and chief technology officer of Starmount.

”Richard Mader is one of the most influential technology executives in retail, and Starmount will benefit greatly from his vision and insight,” Rightmer said.

Mader has helped shape the development of industry standards for retail technology since he has served as the executive director for the Association of Retail Technology Standards (ARTS), which is a division of the National Retail Federation. He has worked as ARTS executive director since 1999.

One of his achievements for the field has been working toward the development of the Unified Point of Service Standard, which helps connect point-of-sale devices. Mader said, “I have worked closely with Jerry and his team on ARTS standards for many years, and their understanding of the retail industry has now elevated Starmount to a leadership position in mobile POS and mobile selling. Starmount applications embody the ARTS vision of building on standards that protect retailers’ investments and provide the flexibility to support rapid innovation and change.
