Paseo Colorado Macy's to Close

Macy’s Inc. will shutter its store at Paseo Colorado in Pasadena, Calif., by early spring. The store employed 116 associates, some of whom may be offered jobs at other Macy’s stores.

The 158,000-square-foot store opened in 1980 as part of the Plaza Pasadena indoor shopping mall, which was renovated in 2001 to become the outdoor lifestyle center Paseo Colorado.

Paseo Colorado is one of five Macy’s stores to be shuttered but the only California store scheduled to close. It is part of a campaign to close underperforming stores and to open stores in growing markets, said Karen M. Hoguet, Macy’s chief financial officer.

Macy’s Inc. also outlined plans for nine new Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s stores, it was also announced. A Macy’s will open in the high desert city of Victorville, Calif., in spring 2013. It will employ 140 people and be spread out over 103,000 square feet. A Bloomingdale’s is scheduled to open at the Glendale Galleria retail center in Glendale, Calif. It will employ 175 people, according to a Macy’s statement.
