THREE DECADES OF STYLE

LASC Celebrates 30 Years

For 30 years, the West Hollywood, Calif.–based LASC has been selling men’s fashions. On June 6, the boutique celebrated three decades of style with a party at its 4,000-square-foot shop, located at 8592 Santa Monica Blvd.

Next to displays of brands such as G-Star and Zanerobe, LASC co-founder Don Zuidema and Alfredo Izaguirre, buyer and partner, talked about why their business has enjoyed such longevity.

The store was built on the basic foundations of hiring good people and staying ahead of fashion trends. But LASC also benefitted from being at the right place at the right time. One year after the store opened, its neighborhood was incorporated into the new city of West Hollywood, which became a self-governing city in 1984. Residents and people who loved the progressive municipality made a point of supporting the new city and its businesses, Izaguirre said. “We’re proud of giving care and love and making [customers] part of a family,” he noted.

Over the years, LASC was a community hangout and also a place to have fun. The store produces annual gay pride and Halloween parties, which attract crowds of more than 2,000 people. In May, it debuted the latest version of its e-commerce site (www.shoplasc.com), and it looks forward to serving West Hollywood for a long time.

“We’re willing to experiment and look for the next frontier of fashion,” Izaguirre said. “We’ll go there with conviction.”
