Angela Dean: Revolutionizing Shapewear With Marena Group

Celebrity designer Angela Dean is known for custom designing garments for well-known figures in the entertainment industry. For over two decades, she has created innovative dresses and beautifully constructed gowns for singers such as Natalie Cole and Chaka Khan, as well as notable television and film icons icons such as Oprah Winfrey and Halle Berry.

In 1987, Dean created the “bullet” bustier for Madonna and since then has been creating high-end lingerie to complete her Los Angeles–based lifestyle collection, House of Deanzign. Recently, Dean teamed up with a U.S.-based manufacturer of compression garments, the Marena Group, to create a line of shapewear designed for women with “real bodies.”

The collection, called Shaped by an Angel, accommodates a range of body types.

“The styles are engineered to reshape the body through compression, and the unique focus is on specific areas of the body,” Dean said.

With body-scanning technology, Shaped by an Angel garments are said to reduce a woman’s figure by one dress size. In addition, the garments are made with Coolmax fibers to maintain breathability, freshness and body temperature.

The pieces include patented F-7 fabric specifically engineered for a customized fit for five different body types: rectangle, triangle, oval, inverted triangle and hourglass. The style ranges from full-body undergarments to yoga pants with mobility to reshape the more the piece is worn.

With plans to launch online first, retail price points for the products start at $99 and go up to $175.

Dean mentioned possible plans of participating in Los Angeles Fashion Week next year.
