CBNC: Not Just Your Average Streetwear Line

CBNC men’s streetwear was conceived by owner Joemm Blanche, who was inspired by art and culture to start his own clothing line. While the apparel is driven by a street lifestyle, Blanche used unique marketing techniques to promote his brand. “CBNC company [even made] police vehicles and hangtag emblems dangling throughout the city on telephone wires [in an effort] to bring a new and refreshing element to Los Angeles fashion,” Blanche said.

The line was conceived in 2010 in “guerilla booths” Blanche hosted by turning his hotel room into a showroom during the MAGIC trade show in Las Vegas. In 2012, CBNC formally debuted when it was chosen out of 10 brands to be showcased in Project 10, a featured section of MAGIC’s S.L.A.T.E. trade show that focuses on the best brands in the street, skate, cycling and art sectors.

“The true essence of CBNC is ‘geeking out’ on the things that its members all grew up loving, from cartoons to riding bikes,” Blanche said. “Those who have been following us from the start know us by the tongue-in-cheek brand [name] Chubby Boob. It was derived on the premise of being comfortable in your own skin and appearance. In a society where outward appearance is the only thing we use to define something, CBNC encourages us to think outside the box and reminds us that not everything is what we expect them to be. In 2012, [we] decided that streamlining and shortening the name to CBNC was the best move overall for the growth of the brand,” Blanche said.

CBNC clothing includes the brand’s signature cut-and-sew tees, sweaters, outerwear and bottoms with matching accessories and lifestyle items. The graphic-driven tees, with a clean font and its name and slogans embossed across the front, are sportswear centric with wholesale prices for tees starting at $17 and most outerwear pieces starting at $35.

All products are sourced and manufactured in Los Angeles, including tees and sweaters that are a custom cotton blend, also made in downtown Los Angeles.

The CBNC brand “embraces a minimal and classic aesthetic, sprinkled with humor and absurdity,” he said.
