CLOT DON'T STOP!

Asian Streetwear Brand Clot Takes L.A.

If there are borders in fashion, Kevin Poon and Edison Chen made it their job to knock them down.

The duo run a Hong Kong streetwear brand called Clot, and they merchandised their first American pop-up shop Oct. 5 on 7667 Melrose Ave., near the intersection of Melrose and Fairfax avenues. The space, which is formally called Juice LA, is run by car brand Scion AV.

Before the shop opened, more than 100 people were lined up to buy Clot’s streetwear, some made in collaboration with brands such as Undefeated, Nike and Converse.

“We have a good Chinese following,” Poon said. But both Poon and Chen know North American culture well. Poon went to Pepperdine University for college. Chen spent some of his high school years and young adult years in Vancouver and Los Angeles. The Clot duo worked with Stephen Malbon, publisher of hipster magazine Frank151 on a special China issue, and they’ll have a party for that issue in the next few weeks. The pop-up shop is scheduled to be shuttered in Nov. 15.
