Coach’s Rodeo Gala
The hard work is over for Coach, and Dec. 11 was the time to party.
First, a bit about the work. The venerable design house unveiled the remodel of its flagship store at 327 N. Rodeo Dr. in Beverly Hills. The 3,909 square foot space will be Coach’s “next generation retail concept.” It will be a template for other stores in Coach’s 500 stores in North America and other branded boutiques across the world.
The look was developed by Stuart Vevers, Coach’s executive creative director in partnership with world renowned creative firm Studio Sofield, led by Designer and President William Sofield.
According to a statement from Vevers, “I believe the new incarnation of the Coach store that William Sofield and I created will trigger a powerful change in the perception of Coach; it is sophisticated and refined, yet playful and authentic.”
Along with Coach’s luxe bags, jewelry and styles, the store features mid-century furniture and reclaimed heart-pine wood flooring with custom hand-tufted wool carpeting. For the exterior, there’s a two-story high glass-block façade supported by massive steel I-beams. We particularly liked a glass table in the back of the store which featured edges inlaid with dominoes.
Now for the party. On Dec. 11, celebrities such as Kirsten Dunst and Chloë Sevigny dropped by for cocktails the new shop, and to view Coach’s spring ’15 capsule collection with Cult L.A. Artist Gary Baseman.
But the big party production was Coach Backstage. It was held on the rooftop of a parking structure a couple of blocks away from the Coach flagship. The gala rooftop party featured sounds from DJs such as Ruckus and Chris Holmes, as well as divine eats from Foodink catering such as prosciutto grilled cheese sandwiches, veal and beef Bolognese mac and cheese, fried Ipswich clam with tartar sauce sliders and Nutella crepes. Wow!
