LA FASHION WEEK FALL 2014

Walter Mendez Collection

Just a year after graduating from the fashion design program of California State University, Long Beach, Walter Mendez took a bow at Style Fashion Week on March 10. His self-named Walter Mendez Collection of women’s evening wear displayed 19 looks at the Designers to Watch section of Style’s runway shows.

Mendez’s Fall ’14 collection offered form fitting silhouettes, some asymmetrical shapes, beading and embroidery. Signature looks included something every collection has: the classic little black dress. But Mendez put his own stamp on the black dress by giving it an asymmetrical neckline and beading on the shoulder. The runway show ended with a few finale gowns; the first was a black chiffon dress with gold appliques, there was a black chiffon skirt with a with a hand beaded corset bodice top. Another was a hand beaded dress with a plunging neckline and cut-out panels on the thighs.
