More Stores To La Brea

Galia Lahav Haute Couture boutique opened last week at 169 N. La Brea Ave. in Los Angeles. We covered the gala debut party for the store. After the party, we also saw a major street that is changing and happens to be the address to some big new stores.

Hip hop star Drake opened a permanent boutique for his fashion line, October’s Very Own ,at 130 N. La Brea in December. It is the first OVO boutique in the United States. The collection from the Canadian-born MC features collaborations with the Toronto Blue Jays MLB team and the Roots Canada LTD. clothing brand. (Have you seen Roots’ Abbot Kinney Boulevard store?) Here’s something that the major Drake fans must know. OVO’s brand’s owl logo is inspired by a tattoo inked on the hip hopper's back.

In October, AOnePlus boutique and showroom opened at 154 N. La Brea Ave. The boutique will bring Italian fashion to Los Angeles, said Riccardo Rizzi, the North America CEO for the company that owns the boutique. AOnePlus's 1,800-square-foot boutique features men’s and women’s contemporary lines and suiting lines, such as Sonia Speciale, Queen of Noise, Baccaro men’s suits, Paolo Bergamaschi knitwear,Roccop footwear and Simple Goods organic clothing. The company also represents Italian time piece labels, fragrance brands and even wine labels.

Talk about keeping it real. Rick Owens opened an emporium for his self-named designer brand at 819 N. La Brea in October. The concrete walled boutique would easily fit on Rodeo Drive or any other exclusive fashion street. But the street life outside of the boutique is much different. A walk through the 800 block of North La Brea is like a trip through the Hollywood neighborhood - before the gentrification of the past decade. Rick Owens' neighbors include the storefront for a psychic, modest offices for a music publishing business and veteran vintage clothiers Jet Rag.

If the street area seems gritty, the inside is another world. It is has gallery feel and is devoted to Owens’ high end, avant garde fashion vision. It offers some eye candy paneled in the store fixtures. One of the walls features a water tank which releases a misty fog in the tank.
