Musika Frère: Bespoke from Old, Old School

We live in an age besotted, and to use a fitting British term, gobsmacked, with anything tech. So it’s a unique experience to meet people and businesses who prefer the way it was before 1990.

New York’s Musika Frère is one such business. The label makes bespoke suiting, shirting and other styles by hand. Aleks Musika, chief executive officer/co-designer says that he prefers not use body scanning technology which is currently very much in vogue.

While many new bespoke labels swear by body scanning tech and state that it masterfully outlines an individual’s unique body measurements, Musika contends that the finer details are missed. Old tailoring devices and a human tailor are needed to map out where bones and joints exactly end. Without old style techniques, key details will be missed, he said, and a bespoke suit won't reach a perfect fit.

Musika Frère dropped by Los Angeles for some press days, earlier this week.
