Pucca Parties at Curve for Collection Debut

Hello Kitty better hang on to her hair bows because there’s a new girl named Pucca coming up the cuteness block. Pucca is a spunky, pigtailed girl who stands for both love and power and is the niece of three Chinese noodle-house owners, in case you didn’t know. She spreads hugs and kisses much to the chagrin of her male counterpart and love, Garu the ninja.

Pucca, owned by South Korean company Vooz Co. Ltd., first crossed the Pacific and into computer screens with an online Flash-animated series of shorts. She soon lent her face to merchandising on products such as stationery, tote bags, plush dolls and figurines. She’s drawn international popularity throughout Asia, Europe and Central and Latin America.

Pucca now makes a splash in the United States with a contemporary fashion collection in partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products. The Pucca collection launched at a red- and pink-infused, heart-filled party held at the Curve boutique at 154 N. Robertson Blvd.

The Pucca line features inspired pieces by a diverse group of designers, such as Erickson Beamon, Genetic Denim, Iro, Mark Fast, Not Rational, Preen, Raquel Allegra, Scatola, Unconditional and the Curve label. Curve owner Nevena Borissova brought together the eight designers for the limited-edition collection.

The collection itself is not overly Pucca-faced or character-driven and instead relies on symbolic subtleties such as studded hearts, cutouts and leather fabrication—the color combinations featured a lot of black and reds and pink and grays.

The Feb. 18 party drew a fashionably girly crowd, which included actresses Amy Smart, Jessica Lowndes and Bijou Phillips as well as Korean actress Da Hae Lee.

“90210” actress Jessica Lowndes said she enjoyed the romantic and bold nature of the Pucca character and how the collection can be incorporated into everyday stylish wear.
