HK Fashion Week Sets Schedule

Fall/Winter 2001 Hong Kong Fashion Week will run Jan. 16–19 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre, where approximately 800 companies will exhibit in two sections of the show, the Garment and Accessories Mart and the Fashion Gallery.

The week is expected to draw more than 16,600 visitors, according to the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, organizers of the event. The week is also sponsored by the Hong Kong Fashion Designers Association, the Hong Kong Garment Manufacturers Asociation Ltd., the Hong Kong Woollen & Synthetic Knitting Manufacturers’ Association Ltd., the Textile Council of Hong Kong Ltd., the Federation of Hong Kong Garment Manufacturers and the Woolmark Company, Greater China Region.

Fashion week events include the Fashion Extravaganza featuring the work of nine noted designers: Moss Chau, Kevin Yeung, LuLu Chen, Danny Yu, Cecelia Yau, Bonita Cheung, Dorian Ho, Arthur Lam and Walter Ma. The designers will present pieces from their lines that exemplify this year’s Fashion Extravaganza theme: “Movie Queen.” Up-and-coming designers will also be featured in the New Designers Fashion Presentation, which will include the work of recent design school graduates. Young designers will also compete for the Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers Award.

Seminars are also planned for the week on a variety of fashion and manufacturing topics, such as “Winning Today’s Chinese Consumers’ Dollars for Clothing,” sponsored by Woolmark and “Fabric Colours and Trends,” sponsored by Tencel.
