Los Angeles Fashion Week Fall 2001: Eduardo Lucero

Fashion followers can always count on a polished collection filled with plenty of sex appeal and glamour from Los Angeles-based Eduardo Lucero. The designer’s Fall 2001 showing at his Beverly Boulevard boutique on April 2 had plenty of both—plus a few avant-garde surprises. The collection placed particular emphasis on the waist with corset tops and corset belts—one of the strongest designs was a tooled black leather belt worn with a fluid black tunic jersey dress. Some of the other highlighted styles included smart yet elegant wide-legged pants—one of the best had a waistband that tied at the hip in a satin-lined sash—and an asymmetrical dress that tied at the shoulder. The designer even played with the Edwardian theme that has run through other designers’ collections, but in true Lucero style, he turned up the heat, showing a body-skimming fishtail skirt in a soft, romantic floral with an expertly tailored ruffled blouse. Call it the new Eduardian style. —AlisonA. Nieder
