Paul Frank Launches Swim

Newport Beach, Calif.-based junior and accessories label Paul Frank Industries will launch a swimwear line for Spring 2002 at MAGIC.

The line will include Paul Frank’s familiar Julius the monkey character as well as Skurvy, a recently introduced skull-and-crossbones character.

The debut collection will include three bodies: a string bikini with a triangle top, a bandeau-top bikini and a halter-top bikini with a hipster brief, according to Annie Younger, head of women’s sportswear for Paul Frank and designer of the new swim line. Each bikini style will be available in one of three prints: Julius on a sky blue background, Skurvy in black and white, and a red and navy rugby stripe with a Julius embroidery.

The collection works back to a beach accessories program that includes a clear tote bag containing a towel, flip-flops and visor imprinted with the Julius or Skurvy characters, Younger said.

“We wanted to take a fun approach because all the characters work for swim,” she said. “You can have your whole outfit when you go to the beach.”

Paul Frank Swim will be on display in MAGIC booth #51009. For more information, call (949) 515-7950. —Claudia Figueroa and Darryl James
