Cal Mart Postpones Designer of the Year
ULCA Heart Disease Benefit Still Set for April
The California Mart has tabled its California Designer of the Year Awards program until 2002 and will concentrate on its current marketing efforts, which include a new advertising campaign and a revamped Web site. The April 1 gala, which benefits the Ahmanson/UCLA Adult Congenital Heart Disease Center at the UCLA School of Medicine, will still be held at the Park Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles.
The fifth annual benefit will include guests such as Sylvester Stallone, Jennifer Flavin, Deana Martin and Jack Scalia, who will serve as master of ceremonies.
The gala was originally intended to coincide with the return of the Designer of the Year Awards, which has been on hiatus since October 1999. The Designer of the Year awards is typically held in the fall, but when the California Mart changed ownership in June 2000, there was not enough sufficient planning time to hold the event in the fall and the April 1 date was chosen instead, said a Cal Mart spokesperson.
The Designer of the Year awards will be held with the UCLA Heart Disease benefit in 2002, according to Judah Hertz, principal in Los Angeles-based Hertz Investment Corp. and owner of the California Mart. Hertz has hosted the annual benefit for the UCLA Center for the past four years.
