James Joins Staff at California Apparel News

California Apparel News has added veteran journalist Darryl James to its staff of writers covering apparel manufacturing, textiles and retail on the West Coast.

James will be covering menswear as part of the paper’s plan to expand its coverage of men’s apparel manufacturers and retailers on the West Coast, according to executive editor Alison A. Nieder.

James comes to the paper with several years experience covering the music industry as publisher, editor and producer for several national media outlets. He recently served as the publisher of JCI Publishing’s Rap Sheet, a monthly tabloid James founded in 1992. He has also written for the consumer publications The Source, YSB, BAM and L.A. Sentinel, and produced “Hangin’ ’N Hollywood,” a nationally syndicated radio program covering the African-American presence in Hollywood.

James holds a bachelor’s degree in newspaper journalism and public relations from California State University at Northridge and participated in the creative writing program at the University of Iowa.

“We are very excited to have Darryl on the Apparel News team,” Nieder said. “I am confident that his extensive journalism experience and fresh perspective on the industry will be a great asset to the paper as we begin to expand our coverage of men’s apparel manufacturers and retailers.”
