Fall River, Mass.-based dyer and finisher Duro Industries has purchased the Balson Hercules apparel-lining division from the Balson Hercules Group, a subsidiary of New York-based Consoltex, for an undisclosed price; Duro will create a new subsidiary called Balson Hercules/Duro Inc. that will be headed up by William Milowitz, former senior vice president of Consoltex’s apparel and textile business; John Iamson, former vice president of apparel linings for Consoltex, has also joined the Balson Hercules/Duro team...Greensboro, N.C.-based yarn manufacturer Unifi Inc. and Minnetonka, Minn.-based Cargill Dow LLC announced several developments concerning their NatureWorks fibers, which are made from renewable resources such as corn; the two companies have unveiled a 1-denier-per-filament yarn version of the product and have developed a method of package-dyeing air-jet-textured yarns; limited quantities of the fiber have been available for fabric development in Europe and the U.S.; large-scale sampling of NatureWorks fibers will be available in 2002, according to the company...Fall River, Mass.-based Radici Group has changed its corporate name to Radicspandex Corp. following the company’s purchase of the assets of Globe Manufacturing Corp. and its brand, Glospan spandex.
