Los Angeles-based lingerie manufacturer and retailer Fredericks of Hollywood is looking for a new owner, according to the bankruptcy attorney for the Los Angeles-based company, which has been operating under bankruptcy protection since July 2000. The company has retained the help of Imperial Capital Bank for help in finding a buyer for all or part of the 55-year-old company, according to a report in the Los Angeles Business Journal...Apparel imports through the Port of Los Angeles last December, the most recent month for which data are available, totaled 38,274 metric tons, up substantially from the 30,612 metric tons imported in December 1999; in other Port of Los Angeles news, the port is in negotiations with China Shipping Co. to build an exclusive cargo terminal for the three year-old shipping line; the deal cannot be finalized without approval from the Board of Harbor Commissioners and the Los Angeles City Council; the news comes on the heels of a report in the Los Angeles Business Journal that U.S. Customs agents have been holding apparel goods marked “Made in Cambodia” or “Made in Hong Kong” under suspicion that the garments are produced in China and illegally rerouted through other countries...Menomonee Falls, Wis.-based Kohl’s Corp. has announced its intention to expand into the California market, targeting its first Los Angeles store opening for 2003; the retail chain currently operates approximately 320 stores.
