Seattle-based retailer Nordstom announced plans to lay off workers and cut back employee hours, citing sluggish sales in the wake of the recent terrorist attacks...The American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) has backed a bill that will clear the way for private apparel manufacturers to compete with Federal Prison Industries (FPI) for production of uniforms and other items for U.S. military personnel; under the terms of the bill, military procurement officers would have to research the market to determine if the products manufactured by FPI are comparable in price, quality and delivery to similar items in the marketplace.
