California Vintage Bows West Coast Showroom

Los Angeles designer Carl Jones found anew home for his California couture collection, California Vintage. The casual sportswear designer is getting ready to open a 1,440-square-foot showroom in suite C517 on the California Market Center’s fifth floor.

Jones, who helped launch the urbanwear category in the early ’90s as a founder of the Cross Colors brand, leased a temporary showroom at the CMC during the last market. He signed a three-year lease for the permanent showroom, according to CMC management.

Formerly known as Malibu Vintage, the 1-year-old line features novelty tops and denim bottoms for men and women. The bright and colorful collection offers knit tops, twill pants and jackets, vintageinspired denim, and embroidered T-shirts with patch details. The line is sold at better boutiques, including Scoop and Patricia Field in New York and Madison and Kitson in Los Angeles.

“This is a Los Angeles–based brand for people who understand the California spirit,” Jones said. “When you wear our soft, fitted jeans and tees, you just feel sexy and great.”
