Retail Grant

The U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao and the National Retail Federation have partnered to implement a $2.25 million grant to train nearly 44,000 retail workers in anticipation of the retail industry’s anticipated growth over the next two years. The Labor Department will work with Saks Inc. and Toys R Us to develop a retail “career ladder” that will span from sales associate through upper management and will provide training guidelines along the way. Through the program, approximately 4,950 workers will receive management training and an estimated 39,000 workers will receive entry-level training. The results will be used to create a cross-industry model for retailers nationwide.
