The Company Z

Norma and Gene Zuckerman, longtime tenants of the California Market Center in Los Angeles, are taking a bigger stake in the Fashion District with a new CMC showroom geared toward the contemporary customer. Located on the fifth floor of the building, The Company Z offers a funkier and trendier alternative to the Zuckermans’ primary showroom, Gene Zuckerman & Associates, located in B571.

The Zuckermans took over the vacated Collins Jeanswear showroom in Suite A534 and have taken on longtime showroom owner Michele Thornton as their chief sales executive. Gene Zuckerman will continue to run the Zuckerman showroom in B571 and will leave the day-to-day management of Company Z to Thornton and Norma Zuckerman.

They brought in a new line of tees from Halley Jane, designed by Jane Gottleib of Von Dutch fame. Ettie features custom knits, most notably sweaters, shawls and shrugs that have been gaining a large celebrity appeal. Recycled Tease features vintage T-shirts reworked with cashmere. Ratna is a vintage cowboy shirt line with hand-painted embellishments. Pink Polka Dot is a line of camis with a loungewear appeal. Other lines include H. Starlet hoodies and track bottoms, ABL Couture and Collins Jeanswear.

“We’re focusing on product and service,” said Zuckerman. “We try to give our customers a reason to buy.” —Robert McAllister
