Los Angeles Fashion Week Spring '05: Ella Moss

Pamella Protzel went big on stripes, comfort and femininity for her Ella Moss Spring collection, which debuted Oct. 27 during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City.

Protzel became known for her striped clothing after Sarah Jessica Parker wore one of her pieces on “Sex and the City,” but the Los Angeles designer expanded beyond the horizontal look for Spring.

In her latest collection, Protzel played with color blockings in combinations such as peach, coral and black. She also mixed in cocoa and turquoise for dramatic effects.

The designer offered feminine pixie dresses, baby-doll tops and lace camisoles. Her striped apparel ran from the basic to the inventive, with a number of bias-cut and regularcut dresses in halter, strapless and open-back silhouettes.

Protzel also presented some bold mosaic prints on tops and halters and went for a cool look with a cherry-colored camisole worn with a twill vest and short shorts. —R.M.
